Greenology

On 15th of August of 2016, we have a field trip to Greenology for our Environment and Sustainability class. I went there together with other classmates from other class as well as my classmates. Our school has provided shuttle bus for us to the destination because the location is not at town area, the address of Greenology: 289 Farnborough Road, Singapore 509747.

When we arrive the destination, our lecture gathers us and the member of Greenology guide and lead us inside the auditorium. The managing director, Veera Sekaran give us a PowerPoint presentation about the philosophy of Greenology, the services that they provide, what kind of plants they used to do vertical greenery, show us some project that they have done and talked about his own experience, and others. After 15-20 minutes of the presentation, before his end, he gives everyone opportunity to ask him questions.

After that, he separates everyone into two groups for the site visit. As the second group, we take turn visit the Greenology Grow Lights, GGL: LED Grow Lights with specific blue and red wavelengths for photosynthesis. Before we enter the staff member of Greenology did some explanation for us.

After the tour inside the Greenology Grow Lights, GGL: LED Grow Lights. The staff member brings us around the site of Greenology to explore how they plant the plants, how they take off the plants, how they trim the plants and much more. I saw that they have integrated greenery in the working space. Along the trip to on the site the staff member did some explanation to us, as well as I will discuss with my friend. Due to the limit of time, we did not really finish the tour at the site.

But I really enjoy the field trip to Greenology because I get to know that greenery can have plant vertically even with limited space, gain knowledge about the important of greenery in the earth and the most vital is to help me in my future career and project.

Here is the mission of Greenology. Greenology means "The art and science of greenery™", also "Urban greening specialist providing vertical Greening, Green roof, Urban Farming, and Stormwater management solutions". And their mission is to transform urban spaces into living, thriving habitats and sustainable ecosystems by using technologically-advanced for instance, Greenology Vertical Greenery (GVG), Greenology Living Art (GLA), Greenology Vertical Agriculture (GVA) and Greenology Grow Lights (GGL) this are the technology available in Greenology for residential, commercial both outdoors and indoors spaces.

Last, I will talk about the founder of Greenology: Mr. Veera Sekaran, he is known as the founder and managing director of Greenology. After he graduated from NUS in 1987, he started the green career route and happened to take him to many parts of the world including Vietnam, China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan and others more. He worked at the oldest orchid garden in Singapore immediately after graduation before he moving to the Republic of Seychelles. He has many experiences like create the landscapes at Changi Airport as the Curator of Horticulture then join the National Parks Board as an Assistant Director. He founded Greenology 7 years ago and has pursued his passion in Urban Greening.
